WATCH A VIDEO GUIDE

Gaelteanga’s Irish Language Video Lessons and Resources

Start learning Irish with short, practical video lessons and useful resources you can use for free, no matter where you are. Suitable for learners at all levels, from beginners to advanced speakers of the language.

This is what you’ll get from these videos:

  • frequently-used words and phrases that can be used in many different contexts
  • useful and authentic conversations in Irish that focus on everyday usage
  • a guide to online resources in Irish that will help you speak and write the language more accurately.

Watching these videos will help you add to your language skills and make you feel a lot more confident when speaking Irish.

The videos are particularly valuable for those who want to prioritise speaking from the very beginning. Instead of overwhelming learners with grammar-heavy lessons, they focus on real-life communication.

By hearing and repeating common expressions, learners develop an intuitive feel for the rhythm and sounds of Irish, which is crucial for building confidence early on.

This approach mirrors how people naturally acquire languages, making it especially effective for beginners or those returning to Irish after some time away from it.

How it works

  • Start with the A Taste of Irish in < 30 seconds! series, which is aimed at beginners and those who know only some basic phrases in the language.
  • Once you’ve watched those videos a few times, move on to the Speak Irish Now! / Bí ag Caint! series.
  • In the case of those two series, watch one video at a time.
  • Listen first, then repeat the phrase or sentence with the person on the recording, without stopping the video.
  • Try the exercise at the end of each Speak Irish Now! / Bí ag Caint! video a few times, until you’ve mastered the content

Testimonials

  • Challenging but highly enjoyable!

I recently finished Term 1 of the Beginners/A1 course and found it very beneficial. Challenging but highly enjoyable! The interactive online lessons were extremely useful/valuable for revising what we had covered in class. I’m pleased that we still have access to that online content after the course has finished. Highly recommended.

  • Took the stress out of learning the language.

I was nervous about returning to Irish – I wasn’t particularly good at it at school. The teacher was great, though – she was very patient and helpful and took the stress out of learning the language. I found the pair and group work activities an excellent way of practising new words and phrases and the online lessons were a great resource.

  • Excellent resources, especially the online ones

A really great course. We studied complex grammar rules that often confuse people, as well as the basic rules. We were provided with excellent resources, especially the online ones, which allowed us to review the things we did in class.
